Exploring the Magic of Sedona, Arizona

Nestled in the heart of Arizona, Sedona is a natural paradise renowned for its majestic red rock formations and vibrant, artistic community. With a blend of outdoor adventures, stunning nature, cultural attractions and spiritual vortexes, Sedona is a place I have long wanted to visit.

Shawn and I embarked on an unforgettable trip to Sedona where we hiked, explored and photographed the famous red rock buttes and caves. It was so nice to be out hiking in the desert as it started to bloom into Spring. Being the first roadtrip of the season was extra exciting. Every trip to the Southwest becomes more and more familiar and beckons me back like visiting an old friend.

Visiting my family is what spearheaded this trip to Arizona. Our first stop was visiting my Grandpa in Yuma, Arizona. It was great to get to spend some quality time with him and see the sites of the desert landscape.

From Yuma, we made the journey to Sedona to meet up with my sister and her family as well as my parents who flew in from Washington State. I honestly was so excited to see part of my family. Getting to spend time with them is a rare occurrence since most of us live in various states across the Country. We had a fun few days of exploring the town of Sedona with its Spanish architecture and new age vibe as well as getting out to iconic locations such as the secret slick rock trail. There we had a picnic in the Arizona sun warming our souls, sharing laughter and admiring the landscape.

A day later we returned to the secret slick rock trail to photograph my sister and her husband’s anniversary photos. With 14 years of marriage and two kids, Fab and Jen have every reason to celebrate this special moment in their lives. It was a stormy day with chilly, icy wind and we didn’t know until it got closer to sunset if it would be even be possible for photography. With Shawn’s detective abilities and pure instinct, he made the call that we should do it that night. Looking up at the dark gloomy sky, I agreed hoping for the best. Nature gave us a gift that night, blessing us with beautiful golden light. Even though the wind never stopped, Fab and Jen were troopers and braved the elements to create these stunning photographs.

After a few days with family, we said our goodbyes and set out on our own with some exciting photography projects in mind. Shawn got really inspired recently about photographing self portraits of us in some of our favorite locations throughout the west. Not only will this be something that we cherish forever, but we hope to inspire other couples to hire us to photograph them in beautiful nature. Of course we love Yosemite and work with the majority of our couples there, yet we are also excited to expand to other beautiful locations.

We were blown away by the diversity of stunning locations of Sedona and are super excited to share with you, this collection is some of our favorite images from our week of exploring this area. Here are some of our favorites.

Another gift that Sedona offered us, was a clearing storm. The day prior it was a complete rain out with evacuations in some areas due to the local creek reaching flood stage. We researched locations and dreamt of a clearing storm. The next morning we were not disappointed. Waking up for sunrise and getting to witness the clouds swirling around the red rock formations was a sight to behold. Here are some of my favorite landscape photographs from the trip. Hope you enjoy!
